As I was doing chores aroud the house, I thought of a recommendation that I would write for both of you. Really, it is just to express my appreciation: I wanted to go to New England in the fall to experience the colors and learn more about digital photography. I looked online and found a workshop offered by Michael Blanchette and Ben Williamson. I checked their websites, and their work was excellent. See for yourself. They took me and the other participants to many magnificent places and great places to photograph. Mike is about my age, but he still has passion for photography. HIs organizational skills made the trip so productive, and his knowledge is vast. Ben is the kind of person who gets up before sunrise to take a chance on getting a stunning photo. He is calm, but his passion for the art is evident. He gave me gentle pointers that were very helpful to me. I also watched how creatively he approached making a photo. Their workshop was a memorable experience for me.

I have done 2 workshops with Mike Blanchette and Ben Williamson in the Fall and at the Cape and I cannot say enough positive things about them. I have learned so much about composition, processing, etc. I have been a photographer for many years and yet I have learned so many techniques during these workshops that took me to another level. Expect to work hard while in the workshop but come home with incredible pictures and a wealth of information. Mike and Ben have a keen passion about photography and an easy going way about them that makes the entire time very enjoyable. No matter what level of photographer you are, you can expect equal hands-on attention from them. At the end of the workshop, I found it hard to leave!

I have just finished the Maine Coast 2018 workshop with Mike and Ben. I was nervous about meeting everyone and after 6 days it was hard to have to say bye. There were 8 participants of all ages and levels of experience and all were willing to help others get the best out of every shot.

Mike and Ben work well together to give you 5 full days of shooting from sunrise to sunset and even shot at midnight. They each spend time with each one offering help, suggestions and tips to get the best out of each location. The workshops list the itinerary and suggest everything needed to participate. I advise you to do your best to bring what is needed for clothing and equipment and check the FAQ and Training Topic section on the workshop page. You will leave this workshop with lots to process both in your head and in your camera and 9 new friends to share your experience with. Added to my bucket list are the other two workshops.

I attended the August 2018 workshop in Maine led by Michael Blanchette and Benjamin Williamson. I have followed their work for some time and was pleased to finally meet them. They ran the workshop extremely well and are perfect as a team, complementing each other as they have differing styles thus giving you slightly different perspectives.

The workshop ran for 5 days (6 potential sunrise shoots) and we stopped at two towns. First was Brunswick giving us access to many iconic Maine locations. We visited Vaughan Woods, Doubling Light, Giants Stairs, Mackerel Cove, Bug Light and Spring Point light. Then we headed north to Rockport. From this place we visited Portland Head, Marshall Point, Pine Point and Old Orchard beach amongst others. On the last night we went to Pemaquid lighthouse and stayed to shoot the Milky Way.

One thing I really liked about the way the workshop was run was the flexibility Ben and Mike had in trying to find the best location based on the weather patterns. We didn’t have great weather, but we did move to appropriate places as the cloud patterns were being monitored. On the evening with the best weather, following on from a storm, we drove to Old Orchard beach to shoot a beautiful rainbow then on quickly to Pine Point to capture the glorious sunset over the harbor. On occasions when the light was not ideal we visited waterfalls and lighthouses (where there was fog. Quite atmospheric).

Mike and Ben worked hard to help guide people with composition, settings for exposure etc. without imposing. They are both very knowledgeable and easy going. Fortunately, so were the rest of our group which made for a highly enjoyable workshop.

There were also several sessions during the daytime where Mike and Ben presented their approaches to following the weather patterns, on stacking and blending and using Lightroom and on approaches to shooting the Milky Way. Mike followed up after the workshop sending us the presentations, location information with coordinates and videos of the group at work.

We also ate well. Ben knows the area and selected many great places for breakfast and dinner (we often worked through lunch).

I took home a lot of useful information which I am already applying, helping with my workflow and processing.

In summary, I would have no hesitation in recommending a workshop with Mike and Ben. You’ll have fun, eat well, learn some new tricks and get some great shots.

Michael and Ben led a fabulous workshop! Great company, excellent instructors, great food and fabulous scenery! - From fog, to sunrise and sunset, to chasing rainbows across the sky and lighthouses in beautiful and picturesque settings - it can't get any better than that! It truly made my first time in Maine a magical experience.
